WDFW Sportfishing Rules Updates

Penrose Point State Park clam, mussel, and oyster seasons will remain closed in 2023

Action: Closes clam, mussel, and oyster harvesting at Penrose Point State Park.

Effective date: March 1, 2023, until further notice.

Species affected: Clams, mussels, and oysters.

Location: Penrose Point State Park.

Reason for action: The upcoming Penrose Point State Park clam, mussel, and oyster seasons will remain closed. This closure is included in the 2023 clam and oyster permanent rule change package to accommodate construction projects planned for the park during 2023. It is anticipated that construction will be completed during 2023 and those areas of the park will re-open to the public. Similarly, clam, mussel, and oyster seasons closures for this beach are not expected to be permanent and are projected to reopen March 1, 2024.

Additional information: Clam, mussel, and oyster harvest on Penrose Point State Park beaches are currently closed by permanent rules. Shellfish harvest seasons will not open here in 2023. These seasons are expected to reopen March 1, 2024.

As of Feb. 13, 2023, Penrose Point State Park facilities including day use areas and access are closed by State Parks. Please see State Parks website for current access information at https://www.parks.wa.gov/564/Penrose-Point.
